We are a few months away from the twentieth century. Tuberculosis remains a scourge that we can't control or even contain. The sanatorium which opened in 1899 has two missions. If the first is to treat patients, the second aims to focus on research and the means to prevent contagion.
After all, we must remember that tuberculosis is an infectious and contagious disease for which no cure will exist in France before 1921. Provoked by a mycobacterium, the pulmonary tuberculosis (or consumption) is by far the most widespread. The symptoms range goes from cough fever to loss of appetite resulting in weight loss.
Let's come back to the Dr. Küss hospital, would you. We must know that patients in this sanatorium were welcomed in an environment of relaxation and various activities to occupy them. In fact, sanatoriums was more resting places that real care. At the Dr. Küss place, the patients were able to pass their time in the games room, disco, library, at the radio club and much more.
In the 1920s, the complex will be expanded and in the 1960s, the sanatorium will merge with another hospital built thirty years earlier.
Today, faced with the needs and technologies whose building can offer, the sanatorium has been gradually abandoned in late 1990. Today, it is desert, left to itself and taggers in the region.
